OWU Bound

•February 26, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Matt and Justin are on their way to Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Our team has been invited to be a part of a pilot project with the school and the Wesleyan World Headquarters. This pilot project is geared toward bringing college students on board with church planting by immersing them in one for the summer. The interested students have to apply and be selected to fit our context and then this summer we will have two or three interns come to be a part of our team. Please pray for those students God is preparing for Chapel Hill and for Matt and Justin to be sharing with and learning from other church planters while they’re at OWU. From the air over Chicago – love Chapel Hill!

Your prayers are evident as God just reveals himself in new ways all the time. We had a great group of people come out. We’re finding more and more how fitting our location and approach to this Bible study really is. We invite you to continue praying for Tuesday nights. We have 14 weeks ahead and a lot of excitement to share in the life of Jesus.

Celebrating a great day!

We just had a great day here on the hill!  Matt and Justin got to freely give  hot chocolate to some stressed out students on their way to early morning exams.  Cup of Hot Chocolate = Glass of Cold Water?  It was just a beautiful thing right in the heart of UNC.  Had the opportunity to just be encouraged and blessed by the Tuesday morning prayer meeting that Matt is a part of and then got to have lunch with a good friend who shares our heart for the people of Chapel Hill.  So…what’s next?  Here’s what’s cook’n -

We are partnering with our local IFC Community Kitchen to provide food through this Christmas Season. For more information about the IFC check out www.ifcweb.org We are so grateful to you, our ministry partners!

Thanksgiving day is winding down, and a few things are on my mind:
1) When to make a second pass at the table o’ feast
2) Wondering why I haven’t passed out in this recliner yet
3) Blessed by the thought of friends and family that are supporting this mission in so many ways

This Thanksgiving we are thankful for you. We are humbled and honored by your prayers and belief in us. We share this call with you and couldn’t do it without you.

this week…

This is a pretty sizeable week in the life of the city on a hill team.  Matt is speaking for a spiritual emphasis week at a high school in Bradenton, Florida.  Please be praying for what the Lord wants to stir up in the lives of those teens and teachers.  Sarah and Jeanine and Justin are working to get the very first COAHP Newsletter out (be watching your mailbox).  Pray for continued communication of the vision and for expansion of our partnership network.  Justin is in job search mode with a couple leads and still looking.  Pray that the Lord would open a door to a place of effectiveness where he can minister and build relationships for this kingdom work.  Your faithful prayers are SO appreciated and so often felt as we continue to move forward.

Much Love!

keep ‘em coming

Update: The week in Indy was great. Thanks for your prayers. The youth pastors were very responsive. Much love to those on the front lines doing some of the hardest work possible! Check out a little rundown of the conference here.

Please keep your prayers coming for us. We are feeling the tug of transition in several ways. Pray as we begin to engage with a couple of organizations in town geared toward the forgotten and marginalized. Serving alongside these groups- tangibly LOVING Chapel Hill- is a major part of our year one strategy. Pray for wisdom and discernment as we actively move into these partnerships.

Also, please pray as Justin and Jeanine will likely soon transition in their  jobs. These jobs have been a major blessing and answer to prayer (prayers that YOU prayed, by the way!), but from the start, they were temporary in nature. Pray that they walk into their dream jobs in this next phase.

And please pray for Matt’s employment as well. He has applied to substitute teach in the school system, but the process has been very slow. Pray for wisdom, clarity, and the right open doors. Thank you! Much love.

The week ahead

Just a quick note of update:  The team continues to be encouraged by the relationships being built with people in and around Chapel Hill and they are continuing to build prayer and financial support.  Please always feel free to write prayers for the team here on the blog or even write them on your own blog and link them here…we’re all about networking at the COAHP.

Ok, the week ahead.  Please be in prayer for Matt and Sarah as Matt is headed to Indianapolis to speak at a youth pastor’s gathering called FUEL.  Pray that the message would fall on the fertile soil of those youth pastor’s and that Matt would have the opportunity to continue building bridges with other people who might share the vision for this church.  Please pray for the travel of Matt and all of the youth pastors across the country headed to Indianapolis this week.  At the end of the week, Justin and Jeanine get to be a part of providing a meal for the campaign staff of Elizabeth Dole.  The campaign staff is a group of hard working people fighting to keep a hard working lady in the US Senate…  The meal will be a way to show Love to these people who are putting in long hours every day.  Please pray for the ongoing relationships that may flow out of this opportunity.

Thank you for your ongoing prayers for our direction and guidance!

Indy House Party Success

Thanks to all who were praying for us last weekend on our whirlwind trip to Indianapolis! Matt & Sarah and Justin & Jeanine drove from NC to IN and back in just over 48 hours time.  While in Indianapolis the team was blessed to share the vision for the City on a Hill Project in a house party setting and then again in Sunday morning worship at Trinity Wesleyan Church.  So many people offered hospitality and words of blessing and encouragement!  It is really an honor to share what the Lord has placed in our hearts and in-turn have people partner with us.  People across the country (and Canada :) ) are beginning to partner with us to love the people of Chapel Hill with the heart of Jesus.

If you would be interested in hosting or having a house party in your area please email Matt or Justin.

Thanks prayer warriors!!!

The city on a hill team is headed to Indianapolis this weekend to share the vision of loving Chapel Hill. Saturday evening, in a laid back livingroom atmosphere and Sunday morning, with the the wonderful people of Trinity Wesleyan they will have the opportunity to invite friends to partner in ministry. This is a special time to intimately share how the Lord has called them to love the people of Chapel Hill with the heart of Jesus. Please pray that the Lord would move in a clear way, to build partnerships and bridges from NC to IN and around the world. May the message be clear and hearts be open and receptive. Also pray for the travel of the team with over 20 hours on the road this weekend. Thank you for your faithful prayer support!
